42nd Annual Concert

The Korean Music Association (KMA) is excited to hold our 42nd annual concert. Since its founding in 1980, the KMA has diligently promoted the artistic development of both Korean and American music culture hosting forty-two annual concerts. Growing with Washington's Korean community, the KMA has collaborated with the Seattle Symphony's Celebrate Asia and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Seattle. Furthermore, the KMA is a future-oriented organization that has been actively organizing youth music scholarship competitions for 21 consecutive years to support the next generation.

The last few years through the pandemic have been a very difficult time for many of us. Our community has experienced so much loss and divisiveness. Tonight, the KMA wishes our concert will provide healing and hope and show our appreciation for the community through music. As a token of gratitude, the KMA invited first responders and healthcare workers, who worked tirelessly to care for others: We have people from the Bellevue Fire Department, Bothell Fire Department, Seattle Fire Department, Cornerstone Medical Service, Lahai Health, Overlake Medical Center, Senior Housings, Swedish Medical Center, UW Medical Center, Virginia Mason Medical Center, and many private practices.

I would like to thank all who came together to participate in this very meaningful concert. Furthermore, I want to make a special thanks to all of the KMA's board members and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Seattle who supported tonight's concert generously. KMA will continue to strive to serve our community by bridging Korean and American cultures forging a harmonious community that embraces music together.

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to express gratitude to all who worked hard and sacrificed to keep Washington State safe during this pandemic.

1980년 창단한 워싱턴 주 음악 협회는 40여년 동안 음악을 통하여 미국 주류 예술 문화에 동참하고 한.미 양국의 예술적 발전을 도모하며 워싱턴 주 한인 사회와 함께 성장해온 역사 깊은 단체입니다. 워싱턴 주 음악 협회는 매년 정기 음악회를 열어 지역 예술을 풍요롭게 하고 Seattle Symphony와 함께한 Celebrate Asia, 세월호 추모 음악회, 6.25추모 음악회, 광복절 기념 음악회, 열린 음악회, 이사 후원 음악회 등을 통해 지역과 함께 호흡하는 단체가 되기 위해 끊임없이 노력하고 있습니다. 또한, 다음 세대를 후원하며 청소년 음악 장학 사업을 21년째 활발히 추진하고 있는 미래 지향적인 단체입니다.

오늘 42회 정기 연주회는 그동안 사상초유의 팬데믹을 겪으며 많은 사상자와 경제 침체, Black lives matter, Asian hate crime 등으로 움츠러든 커뮤니티에 음악으로 희망과 화합의 메세지를 전달하고자 준비하였습니다. 감사의 마음을 담아 그간 최전방에서 수고한 의료진 분들, First responder 분들을 초청하였고, 오늘 이 자리에Bellevue Fire Department, Bothell Fire Department, Seattle Fire Department, Cornerstone Medical Service, Lahai Health, Overlake Medical Center, Senior Housing, Swedish Medical Center, UW Medical Center, Virginia Mason Medical Center와 여러 개인 병원 의료진 분들이 참석해주셨습니다.

뜻깊은 음악회에 마음을 합하여 연주자로 참여해주신 워싱턴 주 지역 교수님들께 감사드리고 특별히 오늘의 행사가 가능하도록 후원해 주신 워싱턴 주 음악 협회 이사님들과 시애틀 대한민국 총영사관에 이 자리를 빌어 깊은 감사의 말씀을 드립니다. 워싱턴 주 음악 협회는 한인 사회와 이 지역 사회에 자랑이 되기 위해 계속 발전해 나가는데 힘을 다할 것입니다. 저희가 전하는 위로와 화합의 노래가 오랜 팬데믹으로 지쳐있던 지역 사회에 감동과 기쁨을 선사하는 음악회가 되길 바랍니다.

전세계를 뒤흔드는 팬데믹 속에 워싱턴 주를 안전하게 지키기 위해 수고하고 희생하신 모든 분들께 이 음악회를 헌정합니다.
