The Korean Music Association is a nonprofit music organization with a history of over 40 continuous years of annual concerts and a decade of Spring Open Concerts.
Inspired by an abiding interest in Korean classical music, the Korean Music Association sponsors concerts featuring a wide variety of classical music such as Gagok (Korean art songs), opera arias, and other instrumental and chamber works.
Artists from the Korean Music Association join various concerts in the community such as Celebrate Asia, the Seattle Symphony's New Music WORKS initiative, and the the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Seattle's Korean War Armistice memorial ceremonies. In addition to the annual concert series, the Korean Music Association has also sponsored more than two decades of youth music competitions for young musicians. Furthermore, the Korean Music Association has also donated to various community causes such as Cornerstone Medical Services and the relief fund for victims from the sinking of MV Sewol.
워싱턴주 한인 음악 협회 (KMA)의 사명은 지역사회에 음악을 통한 다양한 문화 교류의 기회를 창출하여 기쁨을 선사하고 이를 통해 한인 사회에 자긍심을 키우며 예술의 긍정적 영향력을 전하는 것입니다.
1980년 창단된 KMA는 비영리 예술 단체로서 지난 40여년 동안 매년 가을 정기 음악회를 열고 있으며 최근 10년간 열린음악회를 통해 청중들과 보다 더 친밀한 교감을 나누고 있습니다. 특히 다음 세대 음악인들을 키우기 위해서 지난 19년 동안 청소년 장학 콩클을 개최하고 수상자들에게 데뷔 연주회를 열어주는 등 지역 사회와 다음 세대 음악 발전을 위해 노력하고 있습니다.
KMA의 음악은 한국 가곡, 오페라 아리아, 기악, 실내악과 같은 다양한 장르를 포함하며, 워싱턴 주의 가장 저명한 시애틀 심포니와의 협연 (Celebrate Asia)과, 한국 영사관 주최 한국 전쟁 정전 기념 공연 참여 등 음악을 통해 한미 커뮤니티와 활발히 교류하고 있습니다. 더 나아가 KMA는 코너 스톤 의료 서비스 후원, 세월호 추모 연주를 통한 희생자 구호 기금 전달 등 사회와 함께 살아가기 위해 힘쓰고 있는 한인음악단체입니다.
