Yujin Kim
Soprano Yujin Kim, a District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Audition, made her debut in the United States when she was invited to perform as the heroine, Norina, in the Seattle Comic Opera’s rendition of Don Pasquale. She received critical acclaim from newspapers such as the Seattle Times and the Korea Times - “the most beloved protagonist,” “a very beautiful and appealing voice that moves the hearts of audiences,” and “a fantastic voice with expressive power and beauty that dominates the stage.” She has further established herself as an accomplished vocalist, winning first place at the Civic Opera Competition, Marie Levine Competition, and Bellini Opera Group Competition. She was also invited to perform at the Aspen Music Festival in the United States, as the main female character, Mimi, from La Bohème, conducted by New York City Opera’s principal conductor, maestro Julius Rudel, who praised her as “one of a kind Mimi voice.”
Earning her undergraduate degree at Ewha Womans University under Professor Bok-Joo Jhong, she later received her masters and doctoral degrees at the University of Washington studying under Professors Carol Vaness, Julian Patrick, and Carmen Pelton. Dr. Kim has worked with directors Edward Berkeley, Claudia Zahn, Wesley Balk, and Soodong Chang featuring in Don Pasquale (Norina), La Bohème (Mimi), Dialogues des Carmélites (Constance), L'Enfant et les Sortilèges (Le feu), Pelléas et Mélisande (Yniold), and Hansel and Gretel (Dew Fairy). She has been invited as a soloist in “Celebrate Asia” with the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall and is actively performing in the Korean Music Association’s annual concerts.
In addition to being a professional singer, Dr. Kim was elected president of the Korean Music Association (KMA) in 2019, a non-profit known for its rich history of performing in Washington for the past 43 years. As president of the KMA, she has sought to support the next generation of musicians by expanding the KMA’s annual youth scholarship competition to all 50 states. Dr. Kim is dedicated to bridging Korean and American culture to create a harmonious community embracing music together.

소프라노 김유진은 이화여자대학교 성악과 졸업 후 도미하여University of Washington 석사 과정 첫 해에 Metropolitan Opera National Audition의 District Winner로 수상된 후 Seattle Comic Opera의Don Pasquale의 여주인공으로 초청되어 미주 오페라에 성공적으로 데뷔하였다. Seattle Times와 지역 한국일보, 중앙일보 등의 신문들은 “가장 사랑받은 주인공", “청중의 마음을 움직이는 아름답고 호소력 짙은 목소리”, “무대를 장악하는 표현력과 아름다움을 갖춘 환상의 보이스”라는 평론가들의 평과 함께 공연 후 이례 없이 이루어진 사인회를 기사화 하였다. 또한 Civic Opera Competition, Marie Levine Competition, Bellini Opera Group Competition에서 일등을 차지하며 성악가로서의 입지를 다진 그는 미국에서 가장 권위있는 음악 페스티벌인 Aspen Music Festival에 초대되어 뉴욕 시티 오페라를 이끈 Maestro, Julius Rudel이 지휘하는 Opera, La Bohème의 여주인공, Mimi를 연기하였고 Julius Rudel로부터 “가장 특별하고 아름다운 목소리의 미미”라는 평을 받았다.
이화 여자 대학교에서는 정복주 교수에게 사사했고, University of Washington에서 석사와 박사를 취득하였으며, Carol Vaness, Julian Patrick, Carmen Pelton교수에게 사사했다. Edward Berkeley, Claudia Zahn, Wesley Balk, 장수동 등의 Director들이 기획한 Don Pasquale (Norina), La Bohème (Mimi), Dialogues des Carmélites (Constance), L'Enfant et les Sortilèges (Le feu), Pelléas et Mélisande (Yniold), Hansel and Gretel (Dew Fairy)등의 오페라 무대에 섰고, Julius Rudel, Abraham Kaplan, Peter Erős, Jindong Cai 등의 지휘자들에게 초대를 받아 Seattle Benaroya Hall, Meany Hall, Aspen Harris Concert Hall, 세종문화회관, 예술의 전당 등의 무대에서 연주하였다. Seattle Symphony의 “Celebrate Asia”에서 독창자로 초청되어 Benaroya Hall에서 협연하였으며, 매년 워싱턴주 음악 협회(Korean Music Association)의 정기 연주회 등에서 활발하게 활동을 펼치고 있다.
2020년부터는 연주자로서 뿐 아니라 그동안 음악 공연을 함께 해오던 40여년 역사의 워싱턴주 음악 협회장에 선출되어 미국 차세대 음악인을 후원하는 장학사업을 활발히 추진하고 있으며 매년 여러 음악회를 개최함으로 미주 지역사회에 예술이 전할 수 있는 긍정적 문화 만들기에 힘쓰고 미주 사회에서 한인들의 자긍심을 고취하는 일에 앞장서고 있다.
